HONORS & AWARDS
Distinguished Service Medal USAF, 1997

The Air Force Commendation Medal established March 28, 1958, and may be awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States below the grade of brigadier general who, while serving in any capacity with the Air Force, distinguish themselves by heroism, outstand ing achievement, or by meritorious service not of a sufficient nature to justify a higher award.
Mastership, Academy of General Dentistry, 2004

To attain Mastership, members must first be Fellows in the AGD. Then dentists must earn an additional 600 approved continuing education credits, meeting minimum requirements in certain dental disciplines, of which 400 hours are hands-on courses. Thus, a Master of the AGD has taken a total of 1,100 hours of continuing education. A Master has studied 16 disciplines in dentistry, such as periodontics, orthodontics and implants.
Golden Apple Teaching Excellence Award, 2007

A proud academic tradition at LSUSD is to recognize, encourage and document superior teaching. Thus, at the end of each school year, students in dentistry, dental hygiene and dental laboratory technology select the teachers they consider outstanding.
A total of six awards are given: one for each of the four dental classes, one for the dental hygiene program, and one for the dental laboratory technology program.
Fellowship, Academy of General Dentistry, 2000

To earn a Fellowship Award, a dentist must earn a minimum of 500 approved continuing dental education credits and pass a comprehensive 400-question examination. The dentist is required to be an AGD member for three continuous years. While attaining Fellowship is a challenge, it allows dentists to remain current with what is new in dentistry, and to incorporate the latest research techniques into their practices.
Membership, OKU Honor Dental Society, 2007

Faculty members invited to join OKU are dental school faculty who have been full-time teachers for three years or part-time teachers for six years, and have made outstanding contributions to the art, science, or literature of dentistry.
